Collaborative Opportunities
A new approach to conflict resolution

Crisis Intervention for Couples is a unique process that helps couples who are considering divorce to avoid the devastating emotional and financial costs of a dissolution. Research indicates that many, if not most couples, encounter difficult times in their marriage. If they can weather these times and make the necessary changes to stay together, they often report being very satisfied in their marriages.
The Crisis Intervention model helps couples work on their personal relationships, learn more effective communication skills,  and develop a deeper understanding of each other. In this collaborative team model, each partner has a personal coach- a mental health professional who is experience in working with couples and families, and trained in mediation and communication skills. Another member of the team is the child specialist- another licensed mental health professional with a specialty in children's issues. This professional serves as the voice of the children; a crucial element when parents are too overwhelmed or too hurt or angry with each other to appreciate what their children may be experiencing. Parents have the opportunity to learn the effect of parental conflict and possible divorce on their children.
Additional interdisciplinary team members include a neutral financial specialist, and two Collaborative Law attorneys who represent each client, much like legal coaches.

Our experience indicates that intensive, short-term coaching, with team involvement when necessary, gives coupes a chance to receive some honest feedback, and some reality testing on the effects of divorce. Crisis Intervention gives couples a chance to avoid divorce and strengthen their marriage.
